Overview

Travelers who wish to experience some of Nepal’s greatest sights frequently embark on the Upper Mustang trek. There will be a chance for you to witness some of Nepal’s most breathtaking vistas. It’s a wonderful way to discover the Mustang region’s natural serenity.

Near the Annapurna Circuit in the Himalayan region in the rain shadow, Upper Mustang is a dry river valley. Its history is lengthy, rich, and complicated. It is also known as the “Last Forbidden Kingdom” and was isolated for hundreds of years. Later, in 1992, the upper Mustang region became accessible for adventure enthusiasts and tourists.

The walled city of Lo Manthang, which serves as the regional capital of the Mustang, displays spectacular architecture. The lower portion of upper Mustang receives more rainfall, and the hills there frequently resemble huge red fluted cliffs made of tiny round stones that have been cementted together.

It is rich in authentic Tibetan Buddhist culture with historic monasteries and rural communities because of its close ties to Tibet.

The journey to Upper Mustang provides magnificent trekking through a dramatic semi-arid desert with all around you deep ravines, colorful rock formations, and snow-capped peaks. Along the trip, discover caves, gompas, monasteries, and rock paintings to learn more about Tibetan culture. Additionally, it provides truly stunning vistas of the Annapurna, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and other mountains.

People with major health disorders, such as heart conditions, shouldn’t attempt this trek. During this route, there are some significant ascents and descents. For anyone with back discomfort or those who are afraid of heights, it could be troublesome.

The trek takes place at an altitude of between 3,000 and 3,800 meters, which is somewhat impacted by the dry air. On average, people walk for 5 to 7 hours each day. That is why, it is regarded as a challenging trek.

It is then worthwhile to trek through the entrancing nature, gorgeous snow-capped mountains, historic Buddhist temples, and nearby settlements.

It is actually mesmerizing to stroll among the historic sites, monuments, shrines, and other antiquity. One of our tour guides will take you to the following locations shortly after breakfast:

Pashupatinath Temple
A Hindu holy place, Pashupatinath Temple is located on the Bagmati River’s bank. Its main draws include historical temples, sculptures, shrines, and many others. Hindu devotees are thronging the temple during the Maha Shivaratri festival. Hindu worshippers attend services at the pagoda-style main temple.

Day 05: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele

Early this morning, the trip continues via the paths that run alongside the Kali Gandaki River. However, you must go through a permit check before setting foot on the route.

You’ll hike along the sandy trail after leaving Kagbeni before ascending a hill. The village of Tangbe follows shortly after. With its white cottages, narrow streets, apple orchards, and countryside, the community is distinctive. I love strolling through the village. The path then passes another town and, after continuing on, crosses a river. You eventually cross through a ridge and arrive at Chele.

Day 06: Trek from Chele to Syanbochen

In comparison to earlier trails, the one ahead is a little more difficult. The Taklam La Pass (3,624 m) and Dajori La Passes are the two passes that the path crosses today (3,735 m).

You go to Syanbochen with breathtaking views of Tilicho, Yakawa Kang, and Damodar Danda after a sumptuous breakfast. You continue hiking till you reach Ramchung Cave, then descend to Samar village. Since the trek’s outset, there has been a substantial elevation change. Your body must adjust to the environment’s changing altitude and terrain. So today is a rest day so that you may get used to the new atmosphere.

You’ll be touring the Lo-Manthang community today. There are three noteworthy gompas in the area that are worth visiting. Jhampa, Thupchen, and Chhoeda are their names. The gompas have been brought back to their former splendor over the past 20 years. After visiting these gompas, return to your accommodation.
Overnight in Lo-Manthang.

Day 11: Trek from Lo-Manthang to Drakmar

On this day, after adjusting in Lo-Monthang, you’ll be returning by a different route. The trail passes through Gyakar hamlet, home to the 100-year-old Ghar Monastery. The intriguing rock paintings cover the monastery. Anyone who prays at the monastery is said to receive their wishes. The monastery can be explored at your leisure. You continue your ascent and turn toward Drakmar.
Overnight in Drakmar.

Day 12: Trek from Drakmar to Ghiling

In order to avoid severe winds today, the trip starts early in the morning. The journey is primarily downward sloped.

You hike through a plateau and farmland after a filling breakfast to reach Ghiling. Despite the fact that the routes are descending trails, gusty winds might make the journey more difficult. Dry terrain surrounds the village. Views of the Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri peaks are breathtaking.
Overnight in Ghiling.

Day 13: Trek from Ghiling to Chhusang

Hike away from Ghiling village in the direction of Chhusang. You will be following the same route that you used to hike to Lo Manthang earlier today. You get to see the mesmerizing splendor of the Himalayas along the route. You pass through many tiny towns before reaching Chhusang in the end.
